How do you obtain a Maryland Wear & Carry Permit?

Do I need a reason to apply?

As a result of NYSRPA vs Bruen in 2022, Maryland is now a shall issue state meaning you do not need any extenuating circumstance (a stalker, victim of a violent crime, etc.) merely the desire to carry a firearm for self-defense.

What are the requirements to apply?

You will need to take a 16 hour course with a Qualified Handgun Instructor certified by the Maryland State Police along with 1 hour of range time. Additionally you must be fingerprinted by an approved Maryland Livescan location.

Do I need any additional licenses?

Maryland is unique in the DMV area as you currently need to obtain a Maryland Handgun Qualification License to purchase a pistol. This license has been deemed unconstitutional as a result of a recent lawsuit. The state of Maryland is currently appealing this decision so until the decision is finalized the license is still required to obtain regulated firearms. To obtain a HQL you must attend a 4 hour class with a Maryland state certified instructor with a live fire component.

MD concealed carry permits also require proof of completing a renewal class with an Maryland certified instructor with the renewal application.
