DC requires a 16 hour course with an instructor certified by the Metropolitan Police Department. The course should cover, handgun operation and mechanisms. DC specific laws surrounding use of force and a firearms safety competent. Current and former members of the military are exempt from the full 16 hours of training but must take a course on the DC laws surrounding use of force.

MD requires a 16 hour course with a Qualified Handgun Instructor certified by the Maryland State Police. The course should cover, handgun operation and mechanisms. MD specific laws surrounding use of force and a firearms safety competent. Current and former members of the military are exempt from the training requirement.

Virginia requires those applying for a license to carry to complete an in person basic pistol course with a NRA, USCCA or VA DCJS certified instructor. Residents will apply with their local county clerk courthouse, Non-Residents will apply directly to the VA state police.
Current and former military members can submit a copy of their DD-214 or current orders.
